Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane has backed the introduction of Malhar certification as an alternative to Halal mutton for Hindus, claiming it aligns with Hindu principles. He emphasized that Halal belongs to Islamic practices, and this certification offers a suitable option for the Hindu community.

The initiative has prompted opposition leaders to voice concerns, arguing it might incite religious tension. Congress MLA Nana Patole criticized Rane, stating a minister should not engage in divisive rhetoric that implies the Chief Minister's lack of control over his ministers.

Conversely, BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay supported Rane's stance, citing health concerns from chemicals in Halal meat and advocating for licensed chicken and mutton shops. Rane further appealed to the community to support Malhar certification as a means to empower Hindu traders financially in Maharashtra.
