The Karnataka Assembly recently approved the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, positioning it as a transformative step for the city's administration and growth. State Minister Priyank Kharge underscored the bill's significance, highlighting its potential to enhance governance, administration, investments, and employment opportunities in Bengaluru.

Minister Kharge criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for opposing the bill, claiming their critique is obstructive politics. He noted that the BJP has historically challenged infrastructure projects like the steel flyover, yet complains about traffic congestion. Kharge expressed willingness to consider alternative solutions from the BJP if they propose constructive ideas.

The bill proposes the creation of a Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), to be led by Chief Minister Siddaramiah, with significant administrative and planning powers. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar stated the bill aims to strengthen Bengaluru as the state capital without altering the 74th and 75th Constitutional Amendments. Other officials, including Minister Satish Jarkihioli and Congress MLA Ajay Singh, reiterated the bill's focus on improving Bengaluru's governance to maintain its status as a hub for IT companies.
