In a candid address at Mumbai Tech Week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis voiced his concern over the prolonged absence of local representatives in municipal bodies. He emphasized the urgency of elections, noting, "We cannot deprive our local bodies of local representatives." His comments came as the Supreme Court deliberates a pivotal decision.
With over Rs 70,000 crore of public funds managed without elected checks, Fadnavis expressed unease. Meanwhile, he revealed ongoing state efforts to address rising cybercrimes by establishing a dedicated cybercrime corporation and headquarters in Navi Mumbai, attracting interest from other Indian states keen on emulating this system.
Fadnavis also discussed infrastructure deficits, noting past neglect led to Mumbai's affordability issues compared to cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru. He announced plans for "thematic cities" and highlighted Maharashtra's leadership in the startup sector, particularly in technology, urging youth to better manage stress.
