In a significant drug bust, Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal on Sunday spotlighted the political dimensions surrounding the seizure of cannabis valued at Rs 12 crore from Buldhana district, asserting the improbability of a lone farmer operating without influential support.

Sapkal, addressing the media, called for an exhaustive investigation by local police to unearth the individuals orchestrating the illicit cultivation. He criticized authorities for prioritizing extortion over addressing narcotic activities in the district.

Amid the crackdown, heightened security measures are being undertaken across Buldhana to curb illegal farming. Sapkal highlighted conventional farming's rising costs, potentially pushing farmers towards illegal avenues, and pressed the government to focus on governance over retaining power, including making the 'Chhava' film tax-free.
