India has formally protested against China's recent move to create two new counties in Hotan Prefecture, describing it as an attempt to legitimize Beijing's illegal occupation of parts of Ladakh.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that China's actions conflict with India's sovereign claim over the disputed territory. Despite recent talks to enhance bilateral engagements, New Delhi's position on the matter remains firm.
The protest coincided with efforts by India and China to mend ties after years of strained relations, highlighted by discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit.
