The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday unveiled its election officers for the upcoming selections of state presidents and national council members. Key leaders such as Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Piyush Goyal, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Dharmendra Pradhan have been tasked with overseeing elections in crucial states like Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, respectively.
With an eye set on January 2025 for its new National President, BJP sources indicate that state presidents will be elected by mid-January. This leadership transition comes under the stewardship of JP Nadda, who has led the party since 2019, including during the pivotal 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nadda's tenure has seen him juggle roles as Union Health Minister and Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat.
The BJP is meticulously preparing for organizational elections, set to unfold from the grassroots to the national stage. This elaborate process begins with local committee elections, advancing through mandal, district, regional, and state levels. Each elected president assembles their team, culminating in a national presidency election upon completing half of the state elections. Post-election, the national president appoints their national team, with the entire process spanning approximately two months. The precedent for dual consecutive three-year terms for a national president was established in 2012, reflecting the intricate power dynamics within the party.
