In a recent Supreme Court rebuke, the Punjab government's handling of farmers' leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal's health has come under scrutiny. Dallewal has been on a fast-unto-death since November 26, demanding a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema has openly criticized Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP national convenor, accusing him of leveraging the farmers' plight for political advantage. Cheema further alleged that the Punjab government is being micromanaged by leaders based in Delhi.
Addressing the situation, a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Sudhanshu Dhulia clarified that the Supreme Court's directives to provide medical aid were not intended to terminate Dallewal's hunger strike but to safeguard his health while allowing him to continue his peaceful protest.
