The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to pledge a monthly honorarium for temple priests in its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
This plea comes on the heels of an announcement from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, who promised a 'Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana', offering a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000 to priests in Hindu temples and granthis in gurdwaras if re-elected.
In a letter to Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, VHP's Delhi unit secretary Surendra Gupta urged the inclusion of monthly stipends for Arya Samaj's shastris, Jain Sthanak's archaks, and ISKCON's archaks, stressing that their roles have been overlooked by the current AAP announcement.
