In a recent media interaction, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah effectively dispelled any notion that his party, the National Conference, is under pressure to align with the BJP-led NDA. Abdullah emphasized his belief that the Centre's commitments to reinstating Jammu and Kashmir's statehood will be realized promptly.
Abdullah, speaking at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre, underscored the temporary nature of Jammu and Kashmir's current Union Territory status. He remarked that the true challenge his administration faces is the restoration of statehood, a promise made by high-ranking officials including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that a dual power structure, consisting of an elected government alongside a Centre-appointed lieutenant governor, creates ineffective governance. While recognizing some differences with the Raj Bhavan, Abdullah maintained that these are not insurmountable and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling election promises for the betterment of the region.
