Bangladesh's Chief Election Commissioner, AMM Nasir Uddin, has confirmed that the Awami League may participate in elections unless officially barred by authorities. This follows a recent meeting with election officials in Chittagong, as reported by The Dhaka Tribune.
Nasir Uddin reassured attendees of the Election Commission's complete autonomy and commitment to fair and transparent elections. He acknowledged past issues with fake voters and declining voter registration, announcing an upcoming voter list update to address these challenges.
The Chief Election Commissioner also provided electoral guidelines for the upcoming national vote. Meanwhile, concerns were raised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party about lowering the minimum voting age, as suggested by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, fearing possible delays in the electoral process.
