In a recent statement, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal declared that the government holds no opposition to establishing a memorial for ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He criticized Congress for politicizing the issue. According to Meghwal, a trust is to be formed for the memorial, reaffirming the government's stance.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri echoed Meghwal's sentiments, alleging that Congress is fabricating controversy around Singh's cremation and memorial setup. Puri referenced the handling of former PM Narsimha Rao's end-of-life rites as a comparable situation, asserting that Congress was inconsistent in their commemorative practices.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra voiced dissatisfaction on social media about the government's handling of Singh's cremation, arguing it disrespected his legacy and the Sikh community. The controversy continues to evolve amidst a backdrop of political tension between BJP and Congress.
