The nation prepares to bid farewell to Jimmy Carter, the former U.S. president who died at 100. A state funeral is set to take place at the Washington National Cathedral on January 9th, as announced by the U.S. Army. President Joe Biden will deliver a eulogy on this day, declared a national day of mourning in honor of Carter.

The state funeral proceedings will commence on Saturday in Plains, Georgia, Carter's hometown. The events include a motorcade that will pass significant locations such as the farm where he was raised. A tribute will take place there with the National Park Service ringing the historic farm bell 39 times, symbolizing Carter as the 39th president.

Following the repose at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, Carter's body will be transported to Washington, D.C., to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol until the national ceremony. Carter, remembered for his commitment to peace and humanitarian work, will be laid to rest beside his wife, Rosalynn Carter, in Plains.
