The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fierce critique against Congress figure Rahul Gandhi, condemning his decision to travel abroad during a period of national mourning for India's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Gandhi of celebrating abroad instead of paying respects to Singh.
Poonawalla alleged that the Congress party, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, continues to show disregard for Singh. 'While the nation mourns, Rahul Gandhi sees fit to leave, reflecting the Congress's ongoing indignities towards Dr. Singh, including neglecting to collect his ashes and denying him the Bharat Ratna,' Poonawalla stated.
The issue intensified with BJP leaders like Amit Malviya joining the fray, while Congress representatives like Manickam Tagore retaliated by questioning the BJP's motives and defending Gandhi's private travels. The controversy comes as Singh, who passed away at 92, was honored in a state funeral in Delhi.
