Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa vehemently criticized the BJP on Monday over allegations that Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi left the country while it mourns former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Randhawa demanded that BJP apologize and cease politicizing the deceased leader's memory.
Randhawa accused the BJP of lying about their respect for Dr. Singh, noting their lack of support for a memorial dedicated to him. He defended Gandhi, who participated in Singh's funeral rites, and condemned the BJP for attempting to propagate false narratives.
In contrast, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of disrespect towards Dr. Singh, claiming that they neglected his legacy and denied him the Bharat Ratna. The controversy comes after Singh's death at 92, following his cremation with full state honors.
