The proposed 'Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana' by AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal faced sharp criticism from the BJP, who branded it a mere political stunt ahead of impending elections. Delhi BJP chief Veerendra Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of making populist announcements to maintain political power.
Former Delhi MP Parvesh Verma publicly challenged Kejriwal's motives, questioning the timing of his newfound focus on temple priests and Sikh granthis. Verma alleged that Kejriwal selectively prioritized religious clerics over the past decade, notably clergy from mosques.
In response, Kejriwal emphasized the social importance of the proposed allowance, promising Rs 18,000 monthly to Hindu priests and gurdwara granthis. Despite skepticism, he announced the scheme's registration would commence promptly, aiming to address long-standing community neglect.
