The passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should remain uncontroversial, according to Abhijit Mukherjee, the son of former President Pranab Mukherjee. His comments follow remarks by his sister, Sharmistha Mukherjee, expressing disappointment over the Congress Working Committee's (CWC) lack of response following their father's death.

Referring to Singh as both an exceptional economist and a quintessential gentleman, Abhijit underscored the former PM's contribution to stabilizing the Indian economy. He remembered Singh as a reformer and a calm figure who always welcomed others with a smile.

Meanwhile, Sharmistha Mukherjee lamented about the state of Congress, urging for reflection on its current direction and alienation of its veteran members. She also called for a memorial in Singh's honor and recommended the posthumous conferral of the Bharat Ratna on him. Manmohan Singh passed away at 92 on December 26.
