On Wednesday, police in Srinagar and Jammu halted Congress workers from marching to the Raj Bhavan as part of a nationwide protest. The demonstration sought to spotlight BJP's alleged defense of industrialist Gautam Adani, the ongoing violence in Manipur, and the need to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
In Srinagar, Congress members assembled at the JKPCC headquarters. However, officers shut the gates, confining protestors. Congress leaders criticized the BJP for defending Adani amid allegations of scams involving the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited while expressing discontent about police interference.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, similar demonstrations were led by J-K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, who condemned the delay in restoring statehood. Barricades on Residency Road prevented access to the governor's house, marking the administration's strategy to disrupt a peaceful protest. Congress vowed to persist in its advocacy for Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.
