Derek O'Brien, Trinamool Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha, has lodged a privilege notice against Home Minister Amit Shah, criticizing his remarks on B R Ambedkar. A source close to the matter revealed that the notice was submitted under Rule 187 of the Rajya Sabha's Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
The privilege notice quotes Shah's contentious statement made during a Tuesday debate about the Constitution's 75-year milestone. The House witnessed protests led by Congress and other opposition factions, which forced both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions to adjourn due to the uproar.
Home Minister Shah's remarks, accusing Congress of exploiting Ambedkar's name for political gains, sparked controversy. He challenged Congress to reflect genuine sentiments about Ambedkar, pointing out their historical opposition which included Ambedkar's resignation from the Cabinet over policy disagreements.
