Amidst a heated debate, Congress MPs Priyanka Gandhi, Manish Tewari, Sukhdeo Bhagat, and Randeep Surjewala have emerged as the party's potential representatives in the joint parliamentary committee set to scrutinize bills for simultaneous national and state elections.
The two proposed bills, including a Constitution amendment bill and an ordinary bill, were introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Their introduction led to a fiery exchange among parliamentarians, with opposition parties voicing strong dissent.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi criticized the bills as "anti-constitutional" and claimed they undermined the country's federal structure. The government, however, dismissed these allegations, asserting that the bills aim to streamline electoral processes.
