The Trinamool Congress has put forward the names of Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee and Rajya Sabha member Saket Gokhale for inclusion in the proposed joint committee of Parliament. This committee is expected to scrutinize the bills related to conducting simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
This legislative initiative was introduced in the Lower House on a recent Tuesday. The government, emphasizing the need for comprehensive evaluation, assured that the bills would undergo a detailed review process by the joint committee, which will include broad consultations.
For the committee to be officially formed, the Lok Sabha must pass a resolution to this effect, after which the Speaker will initiate its constitution. Meanwhile, other political parties are also in the process of nominating their representatives to the committee.
