In a decisive move against corruption, Ghana's President-elect John Dramani Mahama has formed an anti-corruption team, as announced by his transition team. The action fulfills an essential campaign pledge following his victory in the December 7 presidential election where he secured about 56% of the vote.

The team, led by MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, a noted figure in parliament's Committee on Assurances, is set to delve into corruption issues. The team comprises a diverse group of experts, including a former auditor-general, a legal practitioner, an investigative journalist, and an ex-police officer reputed for tackling high-profile criminal cases.

Mahama's choice of team members underscores his commitment to combat graft and recover lost assets. His previous tenure from 2012 to 2016 was marred by corruption allegations, although he personally avoided incrimination. The new team's creation marks the beginning of Mahama's efforts to fulfill his promises and strengthen government accountability in Ghana.
