In a significant development, an FIR has been filed against Sumbul Rana, the Samajwadi Party candidate from Meerapur, after authorities seized a vehicle displaying the party's flag. This action is alleged to contravene the Model Code of Conduct.
A video depicting Sumbul Rana's father-in-law, Kadir Rana, a former BSP MP, in a heated exchange with police officers surfaced, creating further controversy. The charges were officially recorded at Bhopa Police Station under sections disobedience of public servant orders and election interference.
The Meerapur bypoll, necessitated following Chandan Chauhan's ascension to the Lok Sabha, features 11 candidates, with several key political parties partaking. The Congress is notably abstaining but endorsing its ally, the Samajwadi Party, in these elections.
