In an unprecedented move, Russia targeted Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, with a combination of missiles and drones, breaking a 73-day absence of attacks, Ukrainian authorities reported. This aggression comes as North Korean troops bolster Moscow’s efforts, engaging in combat against Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region.

Throughout the attack, air raid alarms rang across eight Ukrainian regions. The Ukrainian air force reported six ballistic and cruise missiles and 90 drones were launched. While air defenses successfully intercepted four missiles and 37 drones, electronic jamming halted 47 drones, with ongoing assessments of the damage.

The assault coincides with internal political uncertainties concerning how a potential Trump-led US administration might handle military aid, vital to Ukraine’s defense. Meanwhile, President Biden aims to reinforce support. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted the importance of aiding Ukraine and stressed that North Korea's troop deployment would provoke a decisive response.
