Former Malaysian Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin, who recently faced charges for failing to disclose assets, has passed away at the age of 86, as confirmed by his lawyer.

Daim, who served as finance minister under ex-premier Mahathir Mohamad from 1984 to 1991 and again from 1999 to 2001, died following a stroke that left him in intensive care. His demise was verified by lawyer Gurdial Singh Nijar, who also announced the funeral would be held on Wednesday.

Daim had been a significant political figure in Malaysia, recently embroiled in a high-profile corruption case. Earlier this year, he pleaded not guilty to charges related to asset disclosure under anti-corruption laws.
