The Taliban regime has appointed Ikramuddin Kamil as the acting consul for the Afghan mission in Mumbai. This is the first diplomatic move by the Taliban in India since they took power in Afghanistan over three years ago.

Kamil, who holds a PhD in international law and studied in India for seven years, was appointed to strengthen diplomatic ties and offer consular services to the large Afghan community in India.

Despite the potential diplomatic intricacies, Indian government sources indicate that New Delhi will accept Kamil's appointment as Kabul seeks to enhance its presence abroad.
