Kaja Kallas, set to become the European Union's foreign policy chief, urged caution on Tuesday regarding assumptions about U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's intentions in Ukraine. She highlighted that isolationism has historically failed the United States.
Responding to questions from lawmakers, Kallas mentioned during her confirmation hearing in the European Parliament that it was uncertain what Trump's actions might be, stressing the need for the EU to have direct communication with his administration.
Kallas remarked that history shows isolationism has never benefited America. She pointed out that if America is concerned about China, it should first focus on Russia, signaling intentions for strategic dialogues with the U.S.
