ICC Probes Chief Prosecutor for Alleged Misconduct
Karim Khan

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is set to initiate an external investigation into its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, who is facing accusations of sexual misconduct, as confirmed in a statement released on Monday. This move aligns with a previous report by Reuters.

The ICC emphasized the need for a fully independent, impartial, and fair process, urging all involved parties to cooperate. Despite the allegations, Khan stated his commitment to continue overseeing significant investigations into alleged war crimes, including those related to the Israel-Gaza conflict, while any investigation-related matters will be managed by deputy prosecutors.

Khan has consistently denied the allegations, attributing them to a misinformation campaign against his office. Meanwhile, ICC judges are evaluating Khan's prior request to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, his defense chief, and several Hamas leaders. The ICC, a permanent fixture in international law, is empowered to prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression.
