In a heated exchange, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the Election Commission (EC) of failing to address its complaints regarding the West Bengal bypolls effectively. TMC claims that the EC's inaction favors the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite the poll body's assertion that it responded within 20 hours.
The controversy began when TMC lodged complaints against Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar and the role of central forces in the ongoing bypolls. The ruling party expressed frustration over receiving an appointment for discussions just 90 minutes before the bypoll campaign ended.
The EC countered TMC's allegations, stressing that it quickly addressed issues like force deployment and issued a show-cause notice to Majumdar. Nonetheless, TMC maintains the EC provided only token appointments and emphasized discrepancies in CAPF operations and derogatory remarks by BJP leaders.
