An FIR has been lodged at the cybercrime police station in Ranchi after a controversial video posted by the BJP's Jharkhand wing allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines. The complaint was initiated by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who flagged the content as "false and misleading" to the Election Commission.
Ramesh condemned the video, labeling it a "disgusting ad" that brazenly breaches ECI's guidelines and constitutes serious criminality. He implored the Election Commission to take prompt action and ensure the matter is addressed appropriately.
Sources indicate that FIR no 176/24 was registered on November 10, 2024, citing MCC violations. Moreover, Ranchi's cybercrime unit issued requests to social media platforms to remove the problematic content under Section 69(A) of the IT Act, 2000. Ramesh has critiqued the BJP, accusing their campaign of lacking substantive issues and inciting communal polarization, while promoting the INDIA coalition's achievements and vision for Jharkhand.
