Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress-led state government, alleging corruption in the setup of CCTV cameras at two government-operated hospitals. In a post on social media platform X, the BJP leader sarcastically remarked that TMC deserves 'applause' for turning a crisis into a business opportunity.
Adhikari accused the state government of spending more than four crore rupees on CCTV installations at Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital and Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College and Hospital. He questioned the intent behind the expenditure, asking, 'Justice for Abhaya or Cut money for Trinamool?' in his online commentary.
According to Adhikari, the Supreme Court had directed improved security at medical colleges, sparking debates among the state and its legal representatives about CCTV installations. Cameras were installed under the 'Rattirer Sathi' scheme, with tenders floated by the Department of Health & Family Welfare and West Bengal Medical Services Corporation Ltd., but at questionable costs.
The BJP leader detailed that 195 CCTV cameras were installed at Jhargram hospital for over Rs 3 crore, each costing over one lakh rupees, while the installation at Prafulla Chandra Sen Hospital is set to cost over one crore seventy-five lakh rupees for 50 cameras. He expressed his astonishment at the expenses, stating it as 'Astonishing, Unbelievable and Utterly Shameless.'
Adhikari further criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government, dubbing it 'the epitome of Corruption,' and claimed the state administration has surpassed previous levels of alleged graft. (ANI)
