In a fiery press conference, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, accusing them of mischaracterizing the 'red book' of the Constitution as linked to urban Naxalism. Kharge pointed out that a similar document was presented by Modi in 2017 to then-President Kovind.

The comments came during the launch of the Maha Vikas Aghadi's manifesto for the impending Maharashtra assembly elections. Kharge emphasized that the Congress's push for a caste census aims to assess the current standing of different communities rather than divide them.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had recently accused Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, of associating with urban Naxals by displaying a 'red book'. Kharge defended Gandhi, stating that the red-covered book is an abridged version of the Constitution used merely for reference, not as a symbol of rebellion.
