Uddhav Thackeray, former Maharashtra chief minister, asserted on Saturday that the Shiv Sena has maintained its distinct identity despite a three-decade alliance with the BJP. Speaking at a campaign rally, Thackeray addressed criticism from the BJP, denying claims that his party had transformed into another version of Congress, with whom they are now allied under the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
Thackeray criticized Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the BJP had deviated from Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology. He maintained that although the Shiv Sena was allied with the BJP for over 25 years, it remained true to its roots. The former chief minister assured that his current unity with Congress and NCP would effectively confront the BJP in the upcoming Maharashtra elections.
Amid talks of development projects shifting to Gujarat, Thackeray highlighted how Maharashtra's economy suffered post his tenure. Criticizing the BJP's unfulfilled financial promises, he pledged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi would seek increased reservations if they reclaimed power. He concluded by addressing the party's opposition and defection issues.
