The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of trying to convert farmers' and temple lands into Waqf properties as part of its vote-bank politics strategy. BJP leaders have vowed to fight these actions, citing notices served on farmers in the Vijayapura district of Karnataka as evidence.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, a senior BJP leader and former law minister, highlighted that notices have been served to 44 properties within three weeks, signaling the urgency of the situation. In response, Karnataka's law minister M B Patil has attempted damage control by blaming a gazette error for the predicament, coming only after public uproar over the issue.
The BJP also condemned Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant for derogatory remarks against a BJP leader. In international news, BJP commented on Donald Trump's statement pledging to protect Hindu interests and strengthen U.S.-India relations, while criticizing his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.
