In a crucial development, the Nagaland Cabinet has agreed to forward Eastern Nagaland's demand for a separate Frontier Naga Territory to the central government. However, the proposal includes renaming it as Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, according to State Government Spokesperson and Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, K.G. Kenye.
Kenye highlighted that the recent meeting involved discussions with the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) and the Eastern Nagaland Legislators' Union (ENLU). After careful review, the Cabinet accepted the draft Memorandum of Settlement proposed by the ENPO, signaling progress after initial resistance to amendments.
Further addressing financial and administrative concerns, Kenye explained that funding delays from the Centre pose challenges. Meanwhile, Minister C.L. John noted that maintaining alignment with central policies is crucial. Additionally, the Cabinet has greenlit a new district for Meluri and voiced strong opposition to Assam's alleged encroachment in a disputed border area.
