In a dramatic escalation of political tensions in Gujarat, Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani has demanded the suspension of Mahisagar District Collector Neha Kumari. The call comes amid allegations that Kumari made derogatory comments about the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), accusations which she has vehemently denied.
The controversy erupted following a SWAGAT programme session where Kumari allegedly used inappropriate language against a complainant and made comments seen as critical of the Atrocities Act. Mevani insists the remarks are offensive and warrant legal action against the collector under the Act.
Responding sharply, Kumari dismissed the allegations as a "political stunt" to extract mileage. She emphasized that accusations of misuse of the Atrocities Act are serious, as they can impact genuine victims seeking justice, especially vowing to uphold law and order amid political pressure.
