The Telangana Congress, spearheaded by its Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has taken a decisive step by passing a resolution urging the Central government to include an OBC caste census in the upcoming 2025 decennial census. This demand follows an in-depth socio-economic and caste survey initiated by the state.
During a press briefing, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, B Mahesh Kumar Goud, highlighted the central government's plans for a decennial census and asserted that it should encompass an OBC caste component. He emphasized the urgency of the resolution, calling for immediate action by the Indian government.
The push for an OBC census aligns with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's stance, as expressed during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. With support from civil society groups, the Congress hopes to heighten awareness and discussion, with district meetings scheduled for November 2.
