Aviva India Faces Religious Discrimination Inquiry Amid Employee Allegations
Aviva India's CEO, Asit Rath, is being summoned by police as part of an investigation regarding accusations made by former employee Gurbir Singh. Singh alleges religious discrimination and humiliation by the company. Aviva has denied all accusations and claims the charges are factually incorrect and without merit.
An inquiry has been launched against Aviva India following allegations of religious discrimination made by a former employee, Gurbir Singh. Singh, a Sikh, claims that he faced persistent and deliberate humiliation by company executives due to his religion. Indian police have summoned Asit Rath, the CEO of Aviva in the country, as well as another executive, as part of the investigation conducted in Faridkot, Punjab.
Aviva has staunchly denied the allegations, calling them 'factually incorrect.' The company asserts it has comprehensive policies to ensure fair treatment for all its employees. The investigation coincides with an ongoing scrutiny of Aviva by tax authorities regarding separate allegations of illegal payments to insurance brokers.
The complaint filed by Singh is currently under legal scrutiny and involves laws against religious insults with malicious intent, which could result in up to three years imprisonment if proven guilty. Despite the serious nature of the accusation, Aviva maintains that the claims lack merit and constitute legal proceedings that preclude further comments.
