Steve Bannon Released: A New Chapter in Political Drama

Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, was released from a Connecticut prison on Tuesday. Bannon, 70, had served a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress, stemming from his refusal to comply with a subpoena related to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack investigation.

Following his release, Bannon returned to his role as one of Trump's staunchest allies, resuming his "War Room" podcast and criticizing the Biden administration. He described his incarceration as being a 'political prisoner' and expressed empowerment rather than defeat from the experience.

Bannon was convicted in 2022 after defying a subpoena, arguing his lawyer advised against compliance. His conviction was upheld in May despite his appeal. Bannon still faces fraud charges in Manhattan related to a fundraising project for the U.S.-Mexico border wall, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
