The nomination deadline for Maharashtra's assembly elections has closed, revealing significant candidate shifts among major political parties. Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dropped eight incumbent MLAs, the largest shake-up among the political factions.
Congress followed suit by replacing five sitting MLAs, while both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar and Sharadchandra Pawar, opted to replace two MLAs each. Only Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, largely maintained its existing roster.
Among the standout changes, BJP has replaced Sunil Rane in Borivali with Sanjay Upadhyay, and prominent incumbents like Dr. Shirish Chaudhary and Anil Deshmukh are not seeking re-election. The elections for 288 seats are scheduled for November 20, with counting set for November 23.
