Steve Bannon: Released From Prison Amid Election Season
Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, was released from prison after serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Bannon's release comes one week before the presidential election. He had been convicted for defying a subpoena from the committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack.
Steve Bannon, a close associate of former U.S. President Donald Trump, walked free on Tuesday after completing a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Bannon, 70, served his term at a low-security facility in Danbury, Connecticut.
His release comes just a week prior to the U.S. presidential elections, where Trump faces off against Vice President Kamala Harris. Once a chief White House strategist for Trump, Bannon's relationship with him weathered ups and downs after 2017.
In 2022, Bannon was found guilty on two counts for ignoring a subpoena related to the investigation of the January 6 Capitol attack. Despite appealing on grounds advised by his lawyer, the federal appeals court confirmed his conviction this May.
