Steve Bannon, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, will be released from prison on Tuesday after serving a four-month sentence. Bannon was convicted of defying a congressional subpoena during the investigation into the January 6 US Capitol attack.
Given his release, Bannon plans to hold a news conference in Manhattan and resume his podcast. He was imprisoned in Danbury, Connecticut, after the Supreme Court denied delaying his sentence despite his ongoing appeal process.
A federal appeals court had upheld his conviction for contempt of Congress, citing his refusal to comply with investigative requests. While facing additional charges in New York, Bannon has pleaded not guilty, with a trial set for December.
