JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy officially entered the race for the Channapatna Assembly by-polls, slated for November 13. The seat was vacated by his father, H D Kumaraswamy, upon his election to the Lok Sabha, and Nikhil's candidacy is backed by an alliance with the BJP.
Ahead of his nomination, Nikhil, accompanied by prominent political figures including his father and BJP stalwarts such as former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, demonstrated a political show of strength. His journey began with family prayers at a local temple, underscoring the blend of personal and political motivations defining his campaign.
This marks Nikhil's third electoral challenge, following previous unsuccessful runs in Ramanagara and Mandya. His opposition, Congress' C P Yogeeshwara, a seasoned politician, escalates the stakes in this by-poll, highlighting the ongoing contest for influence and legacy within Karnataka politics.
