On Friday at 11 AM, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence will assemble to hear oral testimonies from Ministry of Defence representatives. The session, focused on reviewing Sainik Schools, the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), and Rashtriya Military Schools, will take place in the Parliament House Annexe. Notably, Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, is part of this committee.
Recently, the 2024-2025 Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committees were formed, assigning Congress the chairmanship of four pivotal panels, including External Affairs. These committees are composed of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members. Digvijaya Singh, Charanjit Singh Channi, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, and Shashi Tharoor will lead the Education, Agriculture, Rural Panchayati Raj, and External Affairs committees respectively.
BJP's Radha Mohan Singh is at the helm of the Defence committee, while other significant appointments include Nishikant Dubey for Communications and IT, and Dr Radha Mohan Das Agrawal for Home Affairs. As the committees oversee diverse sectors like health, commerce, and industry, they emphasize legislative oversight and policy scrutiny, thereby propelling India's economic development. Major allies like the TDP, JD(U), and NCP are also assigned pivotal committee roles, underscoring the broad spectrum of representation.
