The electoral battleground in Sikkim is heating up as candidates from two prominent regional parties, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), have submitted their nominations for the by-elections in Soreng-Chakung and Namchi-Singhithang assembly constituencies.

On Thursday, opposition SDF candidates Prem Bahadur Bhandari and Daniel Rai filed their nomination papers. They will face competition from SKM's Aditya Golay and Satish Chandra Rai, who filed theirs earlier in the week.

Nominations will close on Friday, with the scrutiny scheduled for October 28. Candidates have until October 30 to withdraw their nominations. The seats were vacated following the resignations of Chief Minister Prem Singh and his wife, Krishna Kumari Rai.
