Nigerian President Bola Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet, introducing seven new ministers while sacking five and reassigning ten others. Changes include renaming the Ministry of Niger Delta Development and merging the ministries of tourism and arts. This move comes amidst economic difficulties with inflation at 32.70% and a growing cost-of-living crisis.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has announced a major reshuffle of his 45-member cabinet, introducing seven new ministers, dismissing five, and reassigning ten others, as per an official spokesperson on Wednesday.
This reshuffle includes significant changes like renaming the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, winding up the Ministry of Sports, and merging the ministries of tourism and arts and culture. These reforms were hoped to address Nigeria's economic challenges, the continent's top energy producer.
Despite such efforts, inflation has surged to 32.70%, escalating the cost-of-living crisis following Tinubu's economic measures like currency devaluation and subsidy cuts. New ministerial appointments include roles in humanitarian services, trade, investment, and housing. Critics express concern over Tinubu's expanded cabinet size compared to former President Buhari's lineup.
