In a notable legal development, charges have been framed against Congress's Saharanpur MP, Imran Masood, by a special court concerning incendiary comments he allegedly made against Narendra Modi back in 2014. At the time, Modi was serving as Gujarat's Chief Minister and was the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
The case was initiated following a complaint by Kusum Veer Singh, then the Kotwali in-charge of Deoband. Singh alleged that during an electoral rally in Labkari village, Masood made inflammatory remarks, threatening to 'tear Modi into pieces,' which led to widespread controversy and a viral video on social media.
Masood, who briefly allied with the Bahujan Samaj Party, returned to Congress and won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Saharanpur. The special MP-MLA court, led by Judge Mohit Sharma, has recorded statements from 19 individuals regarding this case.
