TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee faced a one-day suspension from the parliamentary committee on Waqf after causing a disruption on Tuesday, sources revealed.
The meeting of the Joint Committee on the Waqf Bill took an unexpected turn when Banerjee shattered a glass water bottle during a heated argument with BJP's Abhijit Gangopadhyay.
Banerjee, who injured his thumb and index finger in the process, received first aid and was accompanied back to the meeting by AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi and AAP's Sanjay Singh.
Committee chairman, BJP's Jagdambika Pal, was collecting input from retired judges and lawyers when opposition members questioned the relevance of their involvement in the bill's discussion.
