China is escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait by conducting live-fire drills off the coast of its southern Fujian province. This comes after a vast air-and-sea drill, aimed as retaliation for Taiwan's rejection of Beijing's sovereignty claims.

The Maritime Safety Administration alerted maritime traffic to steer clear of the area near the Pingtan islands. Taiwan's Defence Ministry noted the drills align with China's annual exercises and could be a tactic to enhance deterrence around Taiwan.

Amidst China's increasing military assertiveness in the region, the US, alongside allies like Canada and Germany, maintains naval presence through strategic transits in the Taiwan Strait. Meanwhile, China continues diplomatic maneuvers, convincing countries such as South Africa to sideline Taiwan in favor of Beijing's political agenda.
