Professor Kiranpal Singh, aged 81, who earlier served as a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government under Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has passed away, family sources confirmed.

The esteemed former minister hailed from Dhameda Kirat village in Bulandshahr district and was affiliated with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in later years.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to Singh's family and offered prayers for his soul. Singh held the post of basic education minister in UP and was a national secretary of the RLD at the time of his passing.

A five-time Agouta Assembly seat victor since 1980, Singh's political career saw significant changes post the 2009 constituency delimitation merging Agouta with Bulandshahr Sadar. His body was transported home, where numerous mourners including public figures paid homage, before his cremation with state honors in his native village.
