After a legislative pause of six years, the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir is set to reconvene. On Monday, the newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will be sworn in by Pro tem Speaker Mubarak Gul at 2 pm, bringing a refreshed political landscape to the fore.
The National Conference (NC) has emerged victorious as the largest single party in the recent assembly elections conducted in September and October. With external support from the Congress, holding six seats, alongside five independent MLAs, one AAP representative, and the CPI(M), the NC has successfully formed the government.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrates a significant electoral achievement, securing 29 seats and marking its strongest performance in the state's history. Among the newly elected members is Shagun Parihar, a 29-year-old BJP MLA from Kishtwar, recognized as the youngest legislator, juxtaposed by seasoned NC members like Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Mohammad Sagar, who boast a record seven terms in the assembly.
